Eve by Anna Carey - Coming in October 2011

I was lucky enough to pick up the ARC (advanced readers copy) at TLA last week.  I had just read Delirium and I thought, man another dystopic book about a girl who is separated from men...but then I read it...so good....can't wait for the second book.  Eve is about to graduate from school, top of her class.  She has great dreams of her new life but then she finds out what really happens to graduates.  She runs away and the government is after her.  She meets a rebellious boy who helps her escape to Califia, the place where she has been told can save her.  She starts to fall for him which helps unravel everything she has known about life and men. Will she be able to survive?  Can she trust the boy?

Library Chick's Rating - Scrambled almost an omelet...I did love it and would put it on my favorites but it is more girl friendly.  There is some violence, an attempted rape scene (not graphic) and sexual undertones (but again, not graphic)...again a book for the older middle schooler and above 7th grade/8th grade and up

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

I didn't know this book was a trilogy until a great librarian told me it was the first in a trilogy.  Lena can't wait for her operation to make her like everybody else...this operation takes away the pain of falling in love and being in love.  In this society, it has been decided that love was the downfall and when you turn 17, it is safe to have the operation.  Of course, Lena doesn't expect to fall in love right before her operation.  What will she do?  What happens when she is able to "see" her world?  Will she choose love or death?  Find out in the first installment of Lauren Oliver's trilogy.

Library Chicks Rating -  Omelet!  I couldn't put it down.  There are some sexual suggestions (nothing graphic) and some violence.  I would recommend it for 7th grade and up.

Walking Chaos Trilogy by Patrick Ness

So, it seems that lately I'm stuck in the dystopian genre.  I keep picking up dystopian book after dystopian book.  I blame the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (which I adore).  So, the next couple of entries will be dystopian books.  All of them, and I mean all of them are great books.  All of them are trilogies.  The first trilogy that I want to talk about (after Matched that I spoke about before) is the Walking Chaos Trilogy by Patrick Ness.  The first book is the Knife of Never Letting Go.  I had a hard time at first with the way that the main character Todd spoke but I got used to it.  Basically, the premise is that Todd is part of a settlement on another planet.  The "noise" which has affected the men (noise meaning you can hear and see a male's thoughts)...and killed the women.  Todd finds out that there is more to it when he finds a girl.  The town goes after Todd and the girl...why and what is the big town secret????  It's a great, great, read full of action.

Library Chick Rating:  Omelet...great read...(there is some violence and language)
