Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green & David Levithan
I adore John Green's work. Abundance of Katherine's is one of my top 15 favorite books. It's hilarious. I have to say, I enjoyed another one. Will Grayson, Will Grayson is about two teen boys named Will Grayson. One is gay the other is not but his best friend is. They are two strangers who become known to each other through a chance meeting at an adult oriented store. The story is told from each Will's point of view. I wasn't sure at the beginning I was going to like it because both Will Grayson's were kind of whiny, not so likeable guys. But you get warmed up to them and realize they aren't the typical flat YA characters. They are very much like teen boys who are moody and grumpy and are trying to figure things out. This book is very much a high school book for the sexual references and language.
Library Chick Rating - Scrambled...it was very close to being an omelet.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness (who wrote the Chaos Walking Trilogy) is one of the best books I have read in a while. I got this book in yesterday afternoon. I read half yesterday and read the rest this morning. Tears were streaming down my eyes! Actually I was crying yesterday. It was soooo good. Here's the premise...Conor is a 13 year old boy whose mother (who is a single parent) is dying of cancer. A monster in the shape of a monsterous yew tree visits him and tells him that he will tell him three tales and the fourth Conor must tell the monster and it must be the truth. Conor's monster wrecks havoc in his world causing serious damage. The monster insists he was called by Conor. Will this monter kill him or save him?
This book is a total OMELET! It is appropriate for middle school and up. The black and white illustrations that accompany it really adds to it. There is mild violence, bullying & a mention of an intimate situation (nothing at all graphic)...Get out a box of kleenex. You'll need it.
